If you find yourself due anytime from November through March, you may be daydreaming of a Fall maternity session. There are many reasons to book a maternity session, but the Fall is a little something special! With the change of the seasons, it is the last chance to get out before you prepare to cozy up indoors with your precious baby. Here we highlight the beautiful mama-to-be, Mindy, and future proud father, Denver as they mark this amazing time in their lives waiting for their family to expand. We chose Inniswood Metro Garden in Westerville for their session, and it did not disappoint!
Jewel Tone Dresses for Maternity Pictures
Fall sessions allow for beautiful maternity dresses in deep jewel tones with Fall flowers for backdrop. Long sleeve or short sleeve dresses are both good options during this time of year, leaving you with plenty of flexibility in what you choose to wear. We also love that you can add a stylish shawl, sweater, or jacket over your dress for maximum variety. This first dress is one she chose from home and it complimented her so nicely. The setting was absolutely perfect for a color like this, and the Fall color scheme of it really tied in nicely with the season.
In this next set, she chose to wear one of our maternity gowns. This one is a burgundy color and again it goes so perfectly with the season. Also, can we take a moment to note how stunning she looks?! Truly! And her gorgeous hair looks perfect with the color of the dress. I love the Fall color of the flowers and plants in the background at Inniswood. Like many others, this is one of our favorite places to shoot.
Flowers at Inniswood for Maternity Photographs
If there is one thing Inniswood is known for aside from the beautiful walking paths, it is the perfectly placed flowers throughout the park. While there are several areas that are a bit more natural, there are many well-maintained flower beds just waiting to be photographed! This is one of my favorite locations within the park, although it is often quite busy. It is nearly impossible in the Fall to use this arch in the background - or even these flowers - but we managed to make it all work out perfectly! And that golden sunlight in the background is so dreamy!!
Baby Bump Pictures in Westerville
One thing I try to do at every maternity session is showcase this growing baby bump! Although it is constantly changing from day to day or as baby moves around, we want to document what it is right at this time. Whether this be the only pregnancy or one of many, each bump is special and has it's own story.
I love a close up image that is truly focused on the growing bump. The way these maternity gowns can form so easily around the belly can help showcase the shape and size as baby grows. Additionally, the Inniswood garden in the background provides a beautiful nature backdrop.
This is a fun shot that involves both mom and dad but focuses on the baby bump. I enjoy having them both interact with baby as much as possible. My favorite is when baby will kick during a session in response to something they do! It's so fun!
Couples Maternity Photos
This is such an exciting time for both mom and dad! As that attention begins to shift toward the newest addition, I love to document just a few romantic moments if I can between the couple. Seeing them so connected makes my heart happy, and I know they will treasure these images as will their little one someday.
Having both mom and dad engaged in this experience leads to the most beautiful and tender moments as they both celebrate who they are and what they are about to become.
Photographs of an Expectant Mom
One final item on my mental checklist during maternity sessions is a few stunning photos of the mom to be by herself. This precious and rare moment in her life where she is growing a tiny human is not something to be taken for granted.
In this photo below, I love that the red berries at the park match the red tones in her dress. The colors are very complimentary and really make her stand out. Those curls are perfect, and that lip color she chose couldn't have been better! Don't hesitate to book a professional hair and makeup appointment for your session if you are not feeling up to doing the work yourself. Coming feeling confident and ready to go can help with bringing out those natural smiles and also result in gorgeous photos like this.
I want her to feel beautiful in her maternity photographs, in a dress that flatters her changing bump. I want her to feel strong as her body works to grow this baby. I want her to feel proud of all that she has done and all that she will do once baby arrives to care for her child. This is a truly amazing experience and I love being able to document it for generations to come.
